4-5-24   THOUGHTS

Often God teaches us to consider the end so that we can live righteously.  Ps 90:12 “So teach us to number our days, That we may present to You a heart of wisdom.”  Our reason for living is to glorify God in all things through Jesus Christ.  The things mentioned in this reading are worthy of our sound and sober consideration.  My learning how to be a good sheep is surely supported here.  Prov 23:23   “Buy truth, and do not sell [it, Get] wisdom and instruction and understanding.”

1Pet 4:7-11    The end of all things is near; therefore, be of sound judgment and sober spirit for the purpose of prayer. 8  Above all, keep fervent in your love for one another, because love covers a multitude of sins. 9  Be hospitable to one another without complaint. 10  As each one has received a special gift, employ it in serving one another as good stewards of the manifold grace of God. 11  Whoever speaks, is to do so as one who is speaking the utterances of God; whoever serves is to do so as one who is serving by the strength which God supplies; so that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom belongs the glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.
Luke 12:35-37    "Be dressed in readiness, and keep your lamps lit.  36  "Be like men who are waiting for their master when he returns from the wedding feast, so that they may immediately open the door to him when he comes and knocks.  37  "Blessed are those slaves whom the master will find on the alert when he comes; truly I say to you, that he will gird himself to serve, and have them recline at the table, and will come up and wait on them.
1Pet 5:8     Be of sober [spirit,] be on the alert. Your adversary, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.

My Prayer:
Call us, O God, to be sober and alert.  Awaken us to keen, perceptive living before You. May we keep fervent in your love for one another.  Help us to serve one another with joy.  Lord, please help us to always see the sense of love and the blessings of generosity.  Make us alive, alert, awake and enthusiastic.  May we be instantly ready at all times, to serve, or to join You eternally.  Help us always to resist the devil.   We love You, our God of love.
In the name of Jesus,     Amen.
